ABOUT SOMAPIN

A 191-amino-acid somatropin, identical to the endogenous sequence

Somapin™ is somatropin produced by recombinant DNA technology. Its 191-amino-acid sequence and three-dimensional structure match those of human growth hormone of pituitary origin, distinguishing it from truncated or modified 190AA analogues.

Growth hormone acts through binding to the growth hormone receptor, stimulating hepatic and peripheral production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and influencing protein, lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. The most studied recombinant hormone

The landmark 1990 study in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that six months of human growth hormone administration in men over 60 increased lean body mass by 8.8% and reduced adipose-tissue mass by 14.4%, with an increase in lumbar vertebral bone density.

Since recombinant somatropin became available in 1985 it has accumulated one of the deepest evidence bases of any biologic — spanning growth disorders, body-composition research and decades of assay standardisation — and it remains the reference compound of growth-hormone research.
